Overview
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most beautiful places in Tanzania and one of the best places to see the Big Five. It is famous around the world for its amazing scenery and rich wildlife. Because it is popular and can become quite crowded, we recommend staying for two nights before continuing to the Serengeti for a quieter and more private safari experience.
A visit to Northern Tanzania is not complete without seeing the Ngorongoro Crater. It is one of the world’s finest wildlife safari destinations and also offers opportunities to meet and learn about the Maasai people and their culture.
The crater and the surrounding highlands are among the most beautiful areas in Africa. The region has rich grasslands that support many wild animals. Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera and has one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. It is home to the Big Five as well as many predators, making it one of Africa’s top safari destinations.

Where to stay
You can choose to stay at a lodge on the crater rim and enjoy spectacular views, or stay in the nearby town of Karatu. Karatu is usually less crowded and offers smaller, more comfortable lodges for a great price. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as walking safaris and mountain biking.
