Mahiri African Tours was co-founded by Tanzanian-born local guide Hillary Lyimo and avid Canadian traveller Shannon Gorham. They have built a friendship over their love of elephants and a partnership over the goal to be able to share the vast diversity this country offers to people from all over the world.
Mahiri African Tours are based at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Moshi town. We specialise in wildlife safaris and mountain trekking. We have a love for this country and want to show you the unspoilt beauty it has to offer from the plains of the Serengeti to the glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro.
All tours are easily customizable to fit any budget, from budget-friendly camping safaris to luxurious fly-in safaris. We have the experience to know how to make your Tanzania experience a memorable one, whether it is on the plains of the Serengeti or trekking next to a glacier on Mount Kilimanjaro.
An important part of the company is being able to support and give back to the local community. We are able to support the local community in the region through numerous different NGOs and social enterprises. Each tour provides us with the ability to continue supporting and making a difference in the region.
Our Team
Hillary Lyimo
Born on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, Hillary has been a guide in Tanzania for over 15 years. With experience on both Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife safaris. At a young age, Hillary spent time volunteering in the Ngorongoro region, and although he left to follow another path in life. The time spent in the Ngorongoro region was never forgotten which is what brought him back 15 years ago where he has been able to pursue his passion and share this with people from all over the world. His experience as both a mountain and safari guide for over 15 years brings a vast amount of experience and connections he has throughout the industry that allows us to provide you with unforgettable experiences while in Tanzania.
Shannon Gorham
Shannon is both a nurse and an avid traveller. After spending many years revisiting Tanzania she started Mahiri African Tours with Hillary as a way to be able to offer and allow everyone at any budget to be able to experience what Tanzania has to offer. Having spent many years travelling around the country she has a good understanding of the industry and prioritises the importance of knowledgeable guides, reliable safari vehicles, well-planned itineraries, and safe experiences on Mount Kilimanjaro.
She makes it a priority that the company supports the local people through different NGOs that are sustainable, which she has personally spent time getting to know ensuring real differences are being made in the community.
Returning to Tanzania numerous times a year she is always travelling throughout the country to have a better understanding of each adventure we offer, so she can provide a different perspective that allows for personalised recommendations that can be a valuable resource for travellers.
