Your Kilimanjaro climb begins the moment you land. On the Lemosho route you move slowly from rainforest to moorland, alpine desert, and the crater rim, sleeping lower than you climb so your body can adjust. The days are steady rather than rushed, with time to take in the changing landscape and the quieter stretches of the mountain before the night ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Arrival: Kilimanjaro Airport – Usa River
Your driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer you to Meru View Lodge in Usa River. The rest of the day is free to rest or explore nearby Arusha. Later, the team will meet you for a short briefing on the days ahead.

Day 1: Usa River – Lemosho Gate (2,385 m) – Big Tree Camp (2,780 m)
After breakfast you drive to Lemosho Gate for park registration, then begin the trek through dense, unspoiled rainforest. This is the shortest walking day of the route, about 2½ hours, and a gentle introduction to what follows. You overnight at Big Tree Camp.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2,780 m) – Shira Camp 1 (3,500 m)
The trail leaves the rainforest and climbs into moorland, where giant heather and lobelia take over the slopes. After 3–4 hours you reach Shira Camp 1 for the night.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Shira Camp 1 (3,500 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m)
A shorter, easier day crosses the Shira Ridge, with views toward the Rift Valley and Mount Meru if the weather is clear. The ground underfoot was once lava flow, and you pass giant groundsels that can stand nearly 9 metres tall. Shira Camp 2 sits about 400 metres higher than the previous night.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)
You climb across the Shira Plateau to Lava Tower, gaining roughly 740 metres, then rest before descending into the Barranco Valley. Climbing high and sleeping low is the point of the day: it shows how you are adapting to altitude. Giant groundsels and smaller lobelias line the valley. After 6–7 hours you reach Barranco Camp, where the crew will have a hot meal waiting.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)
The morning starts with the Barranco Wall, the steepest section of the route. It is a scramble in places and you may use your hands for balance, but there is no technical climbing. Follow your guides closely. From the top, the ridge walk can open views of Kibo’s southern glaciers and the summit. Karanga Camp is about 3–4 hours from Barranco.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m)
A 3–4 hour walk through afro-alpine desert brings you to Barafu Camp. You eat an early dinner and turn in early, ready for the summit attempt.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m)
You rise around midnight for hot tea and biscuits, then walk 5–7 hours to Stella Point on the crater rim. After a short rest, another 1–2 hours takes you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Sunrise over the surrounding peaks is the reward. After photos, you descend to Barafu for 1–2 hours of rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp, about 3 hours further. The evening is for a proper meal and sleep.
Breakfast, Dinner

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,080 m) – Mweka Gate (1,630 m) – Usa River
Before the final descent, the guides hold a short traditional farewell. A 2–3 hour walk through the rainforest brings you to Mweka Gate, where your driver is waiting to return you to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to shower, rest, and take in the climb.
